CKA Certification Guide
The Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) is best treated as a skills decision, not just another badge. This guide helps you decide whether administrator-level, hands-on Kubernetes work matches your goal.
Who the CKA is for
The CKA is aimed at people who want to demonstrate practical Kubernetes administration skills. The current official exam is online, proctored and performance-based, so preparation should emphasize doing real tasks rather than memorizing multiple-choice answers.
Choose CKA when…
- You want an administrator or platform-operations direction.
- You are comfortable working from the command line.
- You want a Kubernetes credential built around practical task execution.
Choose another path when…
If your goal is application development inside Kubernetes, CKAD may be closer. If you are still learning cloud-native fundamentals, KCNA may be a gentler starting point. Security-focused candidates often progress toward CKS after establishing administrator fundamentals.
Preparation path
- Build Linux and shell fluency.
- Learn Kubernetes objects, workloads, networking and storage.
- Practice cluster administration in a real lab environment.
- Use timed task practice before the exam.
