Who the CKA is for

The CKA is aimed at people who want to demonstrate practical Kubernetes administration skills. The current official exam is online, proctored and performance-based, so preparation should emphasize doing real tasks rather than memorizing multiple-choice answers.

Current-format check: The Linux Foundation currently describes the CKA as a two-hour performance-based exam and includes two attempts plus simulator access with an exam purchase. Verify the official page before buying because exam terms can change.

Choose CKA when…

Choose another path when…

If your goal is application development inside Kubernetes, CKAD may be closer. If you are still learning cloud-native fundamentals, KCNA may be a gentler starting point. Security-focused candidates often progress toward CKS after establishing administrator fundamentals.

Preparation path

  1. Build Linux and shell fluency.
  2. Learn Kubernetes objects, workloads, networking and storage.
  3. Practice cluster administration in a real lab environment.
  4. Use timed task practice before the exam.
